Cost was about $4 for 8 resistors. Turns out Dell decided not to expose the BMC’s fan controller settings to the users. I dont know where the temperature probe is, but when I run a sensor reader, it all comes back as a reasonable ambent 24 centigrade. It also works on R710. Hitman. Here are my results. The only hiccups I had were on Dell's side, namely that their flashing suite (at least the only one I could find for the 2950) refused to do anything on a non-rpm (Fedora, CentOS, etc.) If you are concerned about the fan speed (and noise) consider this. After some quick investigation, it became apparent that the bulk of the noise came from the four Dell cooling fans (for reference, fan model number was F126025BU.)Â. The plug needs to be changed and the wires remapped. I used an antec tricool. Are you using CentOS live? For the first server I tweaked this was not an issue ( I bought 7 poweredge servers .. accidentally… long story ). You may even be able to make all cuts with a Dremel tool, but you’ll have to test that yourself. The BMC has speed warning and failure thresholds.
